Orcs are a race of humanoids spread across many worlds, especially the Unknown Regions and Liminus Sector. Speculated to have common descent from one source world deep within the Unknown Regions, orcs lost all memory of their origin and went native on many worlds they formerly conquered or colonized. Orcs usually remain technologically primitive, turning to shamanism and simple metal tools, with the sole remnant of their former power being myths of descending from the stars.

Biology[edit | edit source]

Orcs are medium-sized humanoids, on average slightly taller and more powerfully built than humans. Their powerful muscles give them greater strength without much exercise, and in combination with their culture often demanding physical prowess, they are a physical powerhouse. Orcs, regardless of subrace, display near-perfect anatomical fit for the planets they live on, including resistance to cold or adaptation towards specific gravity. This trait leads to speculation of being descended from genetically engineered colonists.

Subraces[edit | edit source]

Because biological traits are often perfectly fit into their world of origin, orcs are traditionally divided into subraces named after colors they resemble, and the cultural traits typical for said orcish ethnicity.

  • Grey orcs are probably the most popular orcish race and also the most reviled one. A typical grey orc is an honorless, opportunistic warrior or warlock with little regard for both fellow orc and other humanoids. When grey orcs band together, it's usually to join their strengths against common enemies.
  • Green orcs are an almost perfect opposite of grey orcs, and the other most populous orcish subrace. Honorable warriors and wise shamans, green orcs keep to the background of their worlds and most often show only when other orcs bring them into wars, or when they're hired as mercenaries.
  • Brown orcs are the most contrasting type, being peaceful and in union with nature. They are both most likely and least likely to develop centralized civilizations, as they either keep to caves and forests to remain close to nature, or construct vast cities of stone where they craft architectural wonders.
  • Scrounge orcs are perhaps the least numerous but the most troublesome. Speculated to be degenerate descendants of Scro, scroungers are often dubbed "space locusts" (when that term isn't used for some goblin varieties). These orcs are large, unintelligent brutes who descend upon worlds for no particular reason and kill and destroy to satiate their warped desires. They paint their ships red to make them go faster, and surprisingly, it works in the Aether.
