Goliaths are a race of humanoids on the upper end of Medium size range. Tall and powerfully built, physical prowess comes easy to goliaths. As a Titanic race, they were originally created as one of many templates of creatures serving in Titan installations although their purpose is unclear. According to some, they were originally warriors and guardians, protecting the facilities. According to others, they are simply a degenerate, shrunk form of the larger Watcher constructs. On any worlds where they have significant numbers, they rarely rise to political prominence, often remaining in tribal and clan structures.

Biology[edit | edit source]

Goliaths are extremely tall for a Medium creature, some particularly big individuals actually fitting Large category. They're tall and naturally stronger than humans, however they do not show propensity for war-like mentality or domination, often leaving them in simple, tribal structures.

Goliaths are notable for traces of the stone they were originally made from remaining in their system, mainly in bones and skin. The mineral gives various shades of their skin, as well as unique patterns and growths on the epidermis. These patterns are unique for every goliath and often believed to have prophetic qualities, foretelling the great deeds - or misdeeds - the individual will perform. This "dermatological divination" is an art goliaths on many worlds develop independently and among scientific community is mostly considered baseless.

The same mineral element also gives their hair a coarse, wiry sensation. Some humanoid races find it disqueting, while goliaths find it the peak of beauty.

Psychologically, goliaths express high propensity to competitiveness. They often strive to be the best in what they do and go out of their way to find challenges. Their cultural past times often include sacred sporting competitions. The more intelligent individuals will pursue the most optimal possible strategy for their challenges with an obsessive and compulsive zeal.

Subraces[edit | edit source]

Goliaths are typically categorized by the mineral still present in their system and the coloration it gives them. These subraces are often associated with specific cultural traits, although they are frequently mismatched.

  • Sandstone goliaths are the most populous. Dark haired, brown skinned with even darker shade of their patterns, they are the most likely group to stay tribal and focused on physical sports.
  • Marble goliaths are the second most populous subrace and the most striking one in appearance. With white skin and black patterns and hair, they can be sometimes mistaken from afar for darfellans. Unlike many other goliath tribes, marble ones are likely to build civilizations and congregate in large cities of shining, white stone. They find the release of their competitive urges in architecture and science.
  • Granite goliaths are the most war-like subrace. Black skinned, with lighter grey patterns, they are frequently seen as mercenaries who compete for the number of kills done personally. There are no known large granite communities but mercenaries of their race instinctively stick together and form tight-knit groups even in otherwise diverse companies.
  • Terracotta goliaths are red-skinned and red-haired and are often nomadic storytellers and philosophers. They enjoy collecting the stories of other races and retelling them to their kin, as well as making up their own stories based on what they heard around the universe. In some cases, it expresses itself in the form of compulsive lying.
