Ereleshku are a race of sentient, talking corvids from Ganymede known for their colorful plumage and covetous natures. Possessing little in terms of civilization, they can make simple tools and steal the more advanced ones from the other inhabitants of Ganymede.

Biology[edit | edit source]

Ereleshku resemble an ordinary crow from Earth, but are much bigger (up to 80 cm in height) and possess brilliant plumage, unusual for Earthly corvids, typically possessing dreary, black feathers. Despite their intelligence, they are otherwise a perfectly average example of an Earthly avian.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Ereleshku do not possess advanced civilizations or much in terms of organized culture. While crows of Earth are just below the sentience threshold, ereleshku have made the small jump above it. Capable of speech, planning and tool usage, they are nevertheless paleolithic at best. They make complicated nests on trees or in caves and make simple spears and hammers at the height of their own capacity. What they cannot make on their own, they steal from other races of Ganymede, especially the human Ganymedeans. They cherish their collections of items they took from others, which they frequently never use for their intended purpose.

Despite this kleptomania and nomadism, they frequently become companions to human heroes and Spart generals. Known for their unusual wisdom, they perch on the shoulders of important figures and advise them from a truly impartial point of view. For this, they gained a revered cultural status on Ganymede which affords them certain tolerance for their covetous habits.

History[edit | edit source]

Ereleshku cannot write and do not keep much in terms of oral history. Their ancestors are rarely remembered beyond the third generation back, which in their case is barely more than a century.

One story most of them keep telling is their mythic origin of life. Ereleshku once believed Jupiter to be the center of the universe around which everything else revolved. They tell the story about a race of "stone monkey gods" (presumably the Titans) emerging from the Eye of Jupiter (the Gread Red Spot) and spitting out life on Ganymede, including the ereleshku. This story suggests life did not sprout normally on Ganymede, but needed transplantation from Earth.

Ereleshku have always been simple, nomadic creatures but the arrival of humans, Sparts and Myrmidons changed them. It exposed them to a different lifestyle and new goods they never experienced before, starting their kleptomaniac habits and the outlandish stories they tell each other about what humanoid lives are like in their "stone nests".
