Dwarves are a race of former Titan constructs turned into flesh-and-blood creatures by the Elder Things. Dwarves are the second most populous Titanic race as a former menial laborer unit. Because of their former role and the place where they found themselves upon awakening to mortal life, most dwarves live in underworlds and rarely dominate their worlds' surfaces. The rare exception to that rule is the Irden Reichs, a powerful interstellar empire ruled by dwarves.

Biology[edit | edit source]

Although biologically very similar to humans, dwarves are shorter and stockier. The tallest dwarves can reach the same height as shortest humans. Despite their shorter stature, dwarves have more densely packed muscles and accumulate fat faster, leading to weight comparable or higher than average human one. Dwarves also have a notable resistance to natural poisons and quickly build up immunity to stronger poisons if exposed enough (making most assassinations among dwarves particularly brutal). Dwarven skin contains different pigments than humans, leading to darker skinned dwarves being grayish to black, instead of varying shades of brown in humans.

Dwarf's most striking feature is the beard. Dwarves are more hairy on average than humans and grow thick, luxurious beards with little trouble. Although females are slightly less hairy, they too have to shave to keep the beard-less look usually encouraged by their culture. Dwarves are more hairy on their entire body and rarely grow bald.

Dwarves live longer than humans, reaching adulthood in their forties and living until their 200s.

Subraces[edit | edit source]

Dwarves are traditionally divided into subraces named after various metals and minerals associated with them due to appearance or culture. It is sometimes thought the metal represents the original material they were made of as a construct, but it's been proven false as all inactive golem dwarves found are invariably made of the same animaton clay.

  • Iron dwarves are the most common variety of dwarf. Paler than most other varieties and with hair color approaching human variety, they are the most likely subrace to live on the surface. Iron dwarves are known for their rigid societal structure, segregation based on gender and the practice of family professions, with generations upon generations inheriting the job of their fathers. The core of Irden leadership is iron dwarves.
  • Coal dwarves are the least likely to live on the surface. Dark grey skinned and usually white haired, coal dwarves usually have pessimistic outlook on life. They believe life is meaningless and there is nothing more to it but endless toil. Gruff and often rude compared to upright iron dwarves, they avoid other races.
  • Gold dwarves have bright skin and hair with a golden tinge. While still concerned with tradition and manners, gold dwarves are usually more liberally minded, believing in gender and racial equality. Unlike most other dwarves, who believe their chief duty is work and family, gold dwarves believe their chief duty is heroic deeds and saving those in need.
  • Bronze dwarves have a skin of a metallic dark brown color and vibrant hair colors, including fiery red. Although usually peaceful, bronze dwarves are quick to anger. This and their traditional association with fire elemental sometimes leads to dubbing them "fire dwarves".
  • Silver dwarves or ice dwarves are the palest variety, varying from white to bright bluish gray skin and white or blue hair. The most stoic and conservative of all dwarves, they're known for a few quirks. Preferring colder environments, even their women grow long beards. Additionally, silver dwarves are known for their bouts of fear - they remain stoic until their fear overtakes them, upon which the ice dwarf flies into a fit of panic with little relation to the actual threat.
