Saroth is a groundling world in the Unknown Regions. It's mostly known for its multitude of sentient races and its constant perseverance in the face of repeated magical cataclysms, as well as a global war which has been raging for over a generation now. A war-torn world, divided between two major powers and various apocalyptic cults, it knows advanced and powerful magic and would be capable of aether-sailing if it learned the necessary spells. Due to the devastating nature of the native war and cults, most galactic civilzations try to keep the necessary knowledge from natives of Saroth.

Inhabitants[edit | edit source]

The most prominent races of Saroth are by far humans and orcs, the races leading the two major factions in Saroth's global war. The orcs on Saroth are mostly green-skinned and shamanistic, as typical green orcs, though humans claim the war was started due to grey orcs practicing demonic magic.

Among other prominent races are high elves, dwarves, gnomes, wood elves, trolls, a race of peaceful minotaurs, goblins, as well as a group of nephilim who escaped Nephil through a portal.

History[edit | edit source]

After the Titan Apocalypse, many of the titanic races on Saroth were left dormant in their original Titan complexes. Shortly afterwards, a native race of insects created a great empire which worshiped the Elder Things and practiced humanoid sacrifice. Trolls rose up to destroy the insectoid empire and took over majority of the world, leaving the insects to be nearly extinct. The troll empire in time split into smaller pieces, as the local elves carved out their own empire around a lake beneath which laid a Titan power source. The elven abuse of that power caused a magical cataclysm which split Saroth's supercontinent into its current continents.

After the elves split into high elves and wood elves, the various titanic races were woken up by the cataclysms and began spreading across the now-shattered continents. In time, humans and orcs became the dominant races, their kingdoms and clans spanning most of the remaining continents. Over 30 years ago, the orcish clans united under a chieftain known as the Black Maw, known for his ruthlessness. His attacks provoked the human kingdoms to unite in an alliance which repelled the initial attacks after one kingdom was lost. Although now all of the original participants of the war are dead and the factions include many other, initially uninvolved, races the war continues with the same fervor because neither faction can overpower the other or seek out peace.
