Venus is a groundling world located in the Unknown Regions. Like neighboring Earth, it was visited by the Titans who experimented with the local wildlife and left a number of ruined stations behind. However, their involvement here was much smaller due to a failed experiment that produced the Overgrowth, now a serious threat to galactic stability. It is currently inhabited by a native race of naturalized fey unofficially called Venereans, as well as a harpy sub-race and a colony of elves descended from refugees from Earth who fled it shortly before the fall of Atlantis. Venus is largely wild, most of its surface covered in the Overgrowth or dominated by native dinosaurs. Venus is also shrouded in a permanent cloud cover which makes it an unpleasantly hot and steamy world for most outsiders.

Inhabitants[edit | edit source]

The Venerans dominate most of the civilized parts of Venus. They're naturalized fey known for their unusual sexual dimorphism. Their females are known for their exotic beauty and magical powers, while their males are brutish, troll-like creatures who serve as slaves and breeders for the dominant females. Often mistakenly called 'space elves', they stand in stark contrast to the actual elves of Venus.

Local elves are descendants of Earth natives. Although far removed from their origin, all groups tell various versions of one story about an ancient elven mage, Erulisse, who opened a number of portals, allowing a large number of elves to escape the onslaught caused by Atlantis. Many of modern Venerean elven societies lost their original magic, descending into barbarism to combat the ever-encroaching Overgrowth. Some nations interbred with the Venereans, resulting in mixed societies which attempt to find a middle ground between the two races.

Most of the surface of Venus is claimed by the Overgrowth, a failed Titan experiment which resulted in a faction of voracious, mobile plant creatures which assimilate or consume all animal life, unless it's deemed useful such as various pollinating insects. The Overgrowth cannot be negotiated with and stopping is spread is virtually impossible, leaving other races to merely try slowing it down.

History[edit | edit source]

Unlike the other two planets in the Sol System, Venus was never technologically advanced. When the Titans came, its only sentient native race, the Venereans were already there and lived in simple, pre-tribal paleolithic societies. Titans observed the natives and the local dinosaurs for many centuries, until local scientists began experimenting on the native carnivorous plant-life. The scientific goals of their research were unknown, but the experiment resulted in the Overgrowth, a group of sentient and extremely hostile plant creatures. Believing all life is sacred, Titans refused to purge the planet and merely evacuated and covered the planet in a permanent cloud cover to quarantine the creatures inside. Through unknown means, the Overgrowth found its way out of the planet and began spreading across the stars several thousand years ago.

Around 12,000 years ago, shorty before Atlantis fell, a number of portals opened on Venus, leading thousands of Earth elves to this world, in an attempt to escape the horrors of the local war. Unfortunately, Venus wasn't a much better home for these refugees, killing most of them with deadly diseases or through native attacks. The elves responded by adapting to the savage world and in a few thousand years, adopted a much more draconian outlook and mutual distrust with the Venereans.

Within the next thousands of years, Venereans began developing basics of agriculture and the idea of central leadership. A number of small Venerean nations sprang up in the southern hemisphere, although the extent of their control was always very small due to local conditions.

Very recently, through accidental cosmic interference, a group of Earth-based aliens, as well as a single soldier from Djedsut, found their way to Venus and the sole remaining Titan outpost on the surface and its mad custodian Melektas. Although more expeditions are yet to follow, it alerted Earth to the presence of life on Venus.
